Wednesday Evening Lenten Series

“For Such a Time as This”

For this year’s Lenten series we will study Christian leaders and churches from the past that have taken a stand against injustice and reflect on what we can learn from them for our current times. We’ll look at Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the Barmen Declaration and the Confessing Church in the 1930s and 40s in Germany; The Belhar Confession and the witness of the Reformed Church in South Africa under Apartheid; and Christian involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. The Barmen Declaration and the Belhar Confession are in the PC(USA) Book of Confessions. The dates are Wednesdays March 12, 19, 26, April 2, and 9th. A light dinner will be available at 6:30 pm and the program will start at 7.

*Mordecai’s words to his daughter Esther, (Esther 4:14), suggesting that she has come to a position in the palace “for such a time as this”—to speak up and save her people.
